Contrary to what others said, I found the Sony 16-50 always quite useful for a lightweight setup. Especially when combined with the magnificent APS-C SEL 50mm f1.8 OSS. When I first got the 16-50 with a NEX camera, I compared it to the Canon 18-55 IS kit on the 550D and the Sony combo won hands down in image quality.
